Greetings and salutations people of the internet! You have found, either intentionally, through dumb luck, or a bizarre combination of the two, the official website of author Patrick D. Quinn.

Now, you may be asking yourself, “Who the hell is Patrick D. Quinn?” With the help of some AI slop images and an over-reliance on terrible puns, hopefully I can introduce you to who I am and what I do and maybe even pique your interest in my writing!

I am a Massachusetts native, currently living in North Carolina. Growing up, I was constantly buried in my father’s collection of science fiction novels, absorbing as much of the works of Heinlein, Asimov, Brin, and more as I could. Family TV night was dominated by Star Trek: The Next Generation, learning leadership skills from Captain Jean Luc Picard and everything else from Commander Riker, including the Riker maneuver. I was a soccer player and a Boy Scout growing up, playing soccer all the way into college and reaching the prestigious rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts. I spent my twenties working retail at Best Buy and partying, as one does, until finally settling into my current career path just before I turned thirty.

The catalyst for this change was, unfortunately, the passing of my mother after a decade long battle with cancer. At that point, I decided to fix up my life and head back to school with the goal of becoming an English teacher. I started writing again at that point as well, using it as a tool to express my grief (Don’t ask for any of my writing from that time period; when I say it is bad, it is REALLY, REALLY bad)

Shortly after that, Best Buy and I “mutually” agreed to part ways. At a Memorial Day cookout shortly after that, I stumbled into what would become a key part of my life, coaching youth soccer. Since then, I have coached at every age and level you could think of.

Over the course of my soccer career, I have had the pleasure of helping my players reach the highest levels of the game, including a few who have played for their National Teams in both futsal and soccer, and a few who have gone on to play in some of the greatest leagues in the world, including the MLS, the Premier League, and the Bundesliga. While I certainly enjoy bragging about those players, the greatest joy of coaching has been sharing my love of the beautiful game with any player who has wanted to show up and play the game.

While coaching through my thirties, I was also hitting the books and working on my education. I picked up a Bachelor of English Creative Writing and a Master of Fine Arts Creative Writing Fiction, both from Southern New Hampshire University. Upon finishing my MFA, I decided it was time to move onto the next step in my career: teaching.

Without getting into the nitty gritty of the very long and agonizing process of finding a teaching position, I eventually ended up teaching in a small charter school just outside of Raleigh, North Carolina. I uprooted my life, and along with my two cats, Heinlein and Asimov, moved from the heart of New England to the capital of the Tarheel state.

And that leads us to now. I teach fifth grade Social Studies and Science at that same Charter School. I am coaching a pair of teams for one of the largest soccer clubs in the country, North Carolina FC, and every now and then when I have even the slightest amount of extra time or energy, I write. Some of that writing I even deem good enough to end up on this website where I share it with you lovely people!

So I hope this gives you a basic idea as to who is Patrick D. Quinn is. And would you look at that; not a single terrible pun was used! Misdirect succeeded!

I hope that you enjoy my writing and blogging and I hope to hear from you in the comments sections! Feel free to subscribe to my blog as well to hear my thoughts on, well, everything!

Welcome to my world! I hope you enjoy your stay here!

Sincerely,

Patrick D. Quinn, and my cats, Heinlein and Asimov.
